Il neurologo Antonio Damasio immagina l’esperimento tutto filosofico d’un cervello rimosso dal corpo, e poi mantenuto in vita per immersione, da una soluzione nutritizia. Esso continuerà ad essere stimolato? La mente si svilupperà in modo “normale”? Per Damasio, un cervello in vita senza il corpo comunque non avrebbe la stimolazione “in uscita”. La mente mancherà di reagire, nelle coeve sensazioni. Quella deve “apparire” a se stessa, stimolato il corpo. S’immagini pure che i nervi recisi del cervello artificiale possano “magicamente” reagire, tramite la classica sensazione. Per Damasio ciò confermerebbe l’assoluta necessità che la mente normale appartenga ad un corpo, contraddicendo subito l’intero esperimento. In aggiunta, i nervi recisi del cervello artificiale non potrebbero avere la grande varietà di sensazioni, che noi conosciamo solo in natura. Nello scatto di Janelle, “c’incuriosisce” lo strappo dei jeans, sul ginocchio. Qualcosa da immaginare come un cervello artificiale! Là, i fili strappati si sostituiranno ai nervi alimentati artificialmente, dagli elettrodi. Pare che il ginocchio “riemerga”, come il Sole all’alba, contro la “luna calante” degli occhi, più sopra. Il “cervello artificiale” qui sarebbe stato rimosso dalla testa, tramite la “pala” del braccio. In alto, solo rimarranno le sensazioni dell’udito o della vista (per la centralità dell’occhio e l’illuminazione dell’orecchio).

The neurologist Antonio Damasio imagines the experiment all philosophical of a brain removed by the body, and then kept alive in immersion, by a nutritious solution. Will it continue to be aroused? Will the mind be developed in “normal” way? According to Damasio, a brain alive without the body however would not have an “output” stimulation. The mind will be lacking in reaction, in coeval sensations. That has to “appear” to itself, stimulating the body. We also imagine that the cut nerves of artificial brain could “magically” react, through the classic sensation. According to Damasio, that would confirm the absolute necessity that a normal mind belongs to a body, immediately in contradiction with the complete experiment. Moreover, the cut nerves of an artificial brain could not have the great variety of sensations, which we know only in nature. In Janelle’s shoot, we are “intrigued” by a tear on jeans, in the knee. Something that we imagine as an artificial brain! There, the torn threads will be in replacement of the nerves artificially powered, by the electrodes. It seems that the knee “emerges again”, as the Sun at dawn, against the “waning moon” of eyes, above. The “artificial brain” here would have lost its head, through a “shovel” of the arm. Above, only the sensations of hearing and sight will remain (for the centrality of an eye and the lighting of an ear).
