Carmen Gimenez Smith immagina d’essere in spiaggia, distesa sull’asciugamano, con uno specchio innanzi a lei che rifletta l’oceano dietro. In un celeberrimo quadro di Botticelli, Venere è rappresentata nascendo da una conchiglia. Tramite questa il mare si potrà vagamente rispecchiare. Carmen Gimenez Smith aggiunge d’essere sottile come una bambola di carta, e quando a mezzogiorno il Sole ritaglia perfettamente gli oggetti. Dall’alto, esso “preme” con la luce sul corpo disteso, che ne diventerà l’impronta digitale. Accanto alla poetessa, un ragazzo sonnecchierà. Noi accettiamo l’innocenza della solitudine, ad esempio quando in riva al mare quasi spontaneamente ci si spoglia per entrare in acqua. Ma può bastare un’improvvisa marea perché i bagnanti si sparpaglino, abbandonando il loro raduno. Federica ed Isabella sono inquadrate a prendere il Sole, presumibilmente da uno scoglio. Gli asciugamani hanno dei toni lievemente vivaci. C’è la configurazione “a conchiglia aperta” dei corpi, quasi “siamesi” da una spalla. Qualcosa da percepire dunque in via speculare. Federica ed Isabella hanno le braccia pressanti nel loro “automatismo” (come dalle bambole), con le mani a ritagliare la pettinatura, uno sbadiglio, l’orlo del costume o del telo. Sulle ciabatte infradito, l’impronta del piede “sonnecchierebbe”, sotto la conchiglia aperta d’una stringa che copre ma nel contempo non copre. In alto si percepisce una “marea” della roccia. Qualcosa che forse non avrà ancora sorpreso le due ragazze…

Carmen Gimenez Smith imagines that she is on the beach, lying down on the towel, with a mirror in front of her which reflects an ocean behind. In a very famous picture of Botticelli, Venus is represented borning from a shell. Through this one, the sea could vaguely mirror itself. Carmen Gimenez Smith explains that she is thin as a paper doll, precisely when at midday the Sun cuts out perfectly the objects. From above, with a light it “presses” the laying down body, which will become its fingerprint. Next to the poetess, a boy will doze. We accept the innocence of a solitude, for example when onshore almost spontaneously we take our clothes off to jump into the water. However a sudden tide can be enough to allow the swimmers to scatter, leaving their gathering. Federica and Isabella are framed while they are tanning, presumably on a cliff. The towels have some colours slightly lively. There’s the configuration “at open shell” for the bodies, almost “Siamese” from one shoulder. Something that we perceive so in a specular way. Federica and Isabella have the arms pressing in their “automatism” (like from the dolls), with the hands cutting out the hairdo, a yawn, the hem of a costume or a beach towel. On the flip flops, the footprint “would doze”, under the open shell of a Y shaped strap which covers but in the same time does not cover. Above we perceive a “tide” of the rocks. Something that maybe still would have not surprised the tow girls…
