Sinapsi a “cingolato” inquadrante – Synapse as “track-laying” frame

We mention a poem of Eugenio Montale, called The pulley of the well squeaks. Something that symbolizes the memory of men. There, the “linking” between synapses would be perceived in screeching. Always, we need forcing ourselves to remember, against the “attrition” of time. Montale imagines that the water (which goes back up) finally should shake. Something that, at the bottom of a well, had the “bland calm”… of a disappearance (complicit the darkness). Unfortunately, the water in fluctuation is perceived in an uncertain way. That’s the symbolism of memory, which however not allows to relive completely the past, by now elusive… Susanna poses in front of a wall, outdoors. Her photography has the black and white, favouring its perception “in passing away” (against the modernity of colours). The arms touch themselves, configuring a possible squaring of the head and shoulders. It seems that the right hand finally tows the shirt, twice: “on a corner” of the belly and on a “turn-up” of the sleeve, both of them white. So, a squaring of the head and shoulders will be perceived in the “pulley” of itself. The wall on the background seems “slithered” by a writer. On the left side, the scraping becomes “track-laying” (as if we watch a metal sheet). The right hand almost “enlarges”, in an unnatural way. There, our look could fall… The right hand curiously will be configured as a foot, so almost “track-laying” (if the step causes a footprint). So, the aesthetic metaphor of memory in the “pulley” of itself can return. Here the hand, virtually in replacement of the foot, would try to grab some traces.

‹ The pulley of the well squeaks,
the water rises to the light and merges with it.
A memory trembles in the overflowing bucket,
in the pure circle an images laughs.
I move my face towards vanishing lips:
the past looses its shape, becomes old,
    belongs to someone else…

    Ah, the wheel screeches already,
it draws you back to the dark bottom,
vision, a distance divides us. ›
